A 59-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two pedestrians were injured in a hit-and-run crash in Dorset.

The two men were struck by a black Volkswagen Golf on Abbotsbury Road, Weymouth, shortly before 20:30 BST on Tuesday.

One of the victims, a man aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The second man struck, aged in his 30s, was not seriously hurt.

Dorset police said it was reported that the car involved failed to stop at the scene.

The force said he had been charged with driving a motor vehicle dangerously, failing to stop after a road accident and failing to report a road accident.

He was also charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and assault.

Following further investigative work, police said the 59-year-old man, also from Weymouth, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
