The plan for the site in Tunstall would vastly improve how it looks, according to the applicants

Vacant land in Stoke-on-Trent that has become a target for antisocial behaviour and fly-tipping could become a self storage site.

Up to 23 storage units and an office are proposed for the land off Broomhill Street, Tunstall.

Previous plans for residential development on the site were approved in 2007 and 2019, according to the application, which states that the latest plan would provide "much needed" storage accommodation.

The proposal is in with Stoke-on-Trent City Council for consideration.

The site has been "neglected" for a number of years because of national economic constraints and is in a very poor condition, states the applicant's report.

A two-storey apartment block containing eight flats was granted permission in 2007 and was superseded by plans for two homes and a bungalow in 2019 - but they were never built.

The latest proposal for self-storage units would be considered a "vast visual improvement" to the land, which currently "detracts" from the quality of the area, the report adds.

It also states the surrounding buildings are "not considered to be of any historic or architectural quality," and the proposed development would largely mirror previously approved plans.
