A child and a teenager were arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire at a derelict property.

Cumbria Police confirmed the pair, aged 12 and 15, were arrested after the fire on Salthouse Road in Barrow, at about 21:10 BST on Monday.

No-one was injured during the blaze, which kept firefighters on the scene for more than an hour.

The 12-year-old was released on bail, while the teenager remained in police custody, police said.

A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue service said the fire affected the roof of the building.

Four fire engines from Walney, Ulverston and Barrow were called to the scene, together with an aerial ladder.

The fire service confirmed the affected building was also hit by fire in June 2023.
