Plans have been submitted to convert a Shropshire pub into an events venue and museum.

Joule's Brewery, based in the town, took ownership of The Stags Head in Great Hales Street, Market Drayton, in 2023.

The scheme, lodged with Shropshire Council’s planning department, would see the pub extended to provide the events space and museum, as well as additional storage for the brewery, which is next door.

It forms part of a £1m expansion at the company’s Market Drayton brewery premises, which launched in February.

The museum space would be run by Drayton Civic Society.

It would replace the group's existing premises on Shropshire Street, and would contain an exhibition to tell the story of the town.

Joule's said other breweries had left towns for industrial estates, and it was committed to continue to brew in the town centre.

The plans will be decided by Shropshire Council in due course.
