A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a woman.

Scott Paterson, 44, from Hardy Way, Fairfield Park, Stotfold, Bedfordshire, made a brief appearance at Luton Crown Court on Tuesday, via a video link from Bedford Prison.

He is accused of the murder of Annette Smith, 74, from Fairfield in Stotfold, who disappeared in November last year.

It follows the discovery of human remains in a storage unit in Letchworth, Hertfordshire, on 30 April.

Mr Paterson was remanded in custody until a plea hearing in June.
