A man has been arrested by police investigating a hit and run which left a man with life-changing injuries.

It comes after a man was hit by a van outside Berties Nightclub in Newquay in October, said police.

The suspect, aged in his 20s from Newquay, has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, said the Devon and Cornwall force.

He has been released on bail until 2 February pending further enquiries.

Police also appealed for witnesses to the incident between 00:15 BST and 00:30 BST on 29 October.

'Knocked to ground'

Police said a pedestrian had been involved in a "verbal altercation" with the driver of a grey Citroen Berlingo on East Street.

"He was then knocked to the ground by the van and sustained serious, life-changing leg injuries," said police.

The injured man, in his 20s and from Newquay, was taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro for treatment.

The van left the scene of the incident, said police.

Officers said they believed that at least one bystander may have filmed the incident on their phone and have asked for the person to come forward.

They are also keen to hear from anyone else who may have captured the incident on their mobile phone, private CCTV, or vehicle dashcams.
