Police investigate as pupil brings knife to school

Police are investigating after a year nine pupil brought a knife to their school.

The incident took place at The Sandon School in Chelmsford on Tuesday, as reported by Essex Live, external.

Head teacher Andy Weaver praised the action of students who raised the alarm upon hearing of the blade.

Essex Police said its officers attended the school and were "working closely" with staff to investigate.

"As soon as we were alerted to this, we immediately located the individual and conducted a search and interview with the student," Mr Weaver said.

"A knife, which had been brought from the student's own home, was subsequently retrieved by staff from one of the bins on site."

The head teacher said parents had been informed and a police investigation was under way.
