British Transport Police (BTP) are appealing for witnesses to a "racially-aggravated altercation" on the Borders Railway.

It happened on 15 December on a train running from Edinburgh to Tweedbank.

The man boarded the train at Waverley at 20:42 and during the journey used racially offensive language "causing distress" to other passengers.

He then left the train at Galashiels station and police are trying to trace him.

He has been described as a short, white man of medium build in his late 40s or early 50s with "dirty fair hair" and a receding hairline.

The man was clean shaven and had a Scottish accent, and was wearing glasses, a blue top and blue jeans.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact the BTP or Crimestoppers.
