Man arrested after alleged robbery at bookmaker

A man has been arrested after an alleged robbery at a Teesside betting shop.

Police officers were called to Norton High Street in Stockton-on-Tees after receiving reports of a robbery at a branch of Betfred.

A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said no firearms were involved and no one was injured during the alleged incident.

The spokesperson said the force were called to the bookmaker at about 19:20 GMT on 2 January.

"A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery as well as attempting to cause grievous bodily harm in relation to a separate incident," the spokesperson said.

"He remains in police custody at this time."
