Man slashed victim with knife in 'random' attack

A knifeman who crept up behind someone and slashed their face in a "random" attack has been jailed.
Shaun Hill, 33, was standing outside a pub in Forest Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, at 17:20 GMT on 6 December 2023 when he attacked the man.
The victim suffered a deep gash from the corner of his mouth to his ear, as well as another wound to his jaw.
Hill, of Bamford Drive in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, was sentenced to six years in jail - with an extended licence period of three years - at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday.
'Horrendous attack'
Nottinghamshire Police said Hill lit a cigarette and let another person walk by before attacking the man.
He grabbed the victim from behind before slashing his face multiple times, before walking away.
Officers caught up with Hill after he walked into a pub and sat down for a drink minutes after the attack.
Hill was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a knife in public, which he later pleaded guilty to in court.
Det Con Rebecca Pottage said: "This was a horrendous attack that was seemingly committed completely at random by Hill.
"The way in which he casually walked up to and away from his victim after doing what he did was truly unsettling to see.
"His decision to target his unsuspecting victim in this appalling manner left the man with devastating injuries and scars to his face that he'll have to carry forever."
