Equestrian farm closes after horse with virus dies
- Published
An equestrian centre has temporarily closed due to a horse dying after contracting a "highly contagious" equine virus.
Canaan Farm, based off Loughborough Road in Costock, Nottinghamshire, made a statement about its current closure on Tuesday after post-mortem examination results of the livery horse confirmed the presence of the EHV virus.
A statement from the farm described it as "a very sad time for the owners" and said it was currently "an isolated incident".
The British Horse Society describes EHV as a "highly contagious airborne disease" that can occur in horses worldwide.
The farm's statement said: "We are working closely with local vets and following all advice and guidance given.
"At this time this is an isolated incident but as a precaution we will be testing all our horses over the coming week.
"Please note this is purely to put minds at ease."
The farm said its yard would remain closed for the next month and lessons would be temporarily stopped until all lesson horses have tested clear of the virus.
