Residents of a housing estate are being warned that part of an access road will be closed towards the end of the month for the installation of a pipe by a water company.

Anglian Water plans to install a new 2.8km (1.7mile) water main along Nature's Way at Hampton, Peterborough, from 24 June, according to Independent councillor John Howard.

He said councillors "have liaised with Anglian Water where possible to minimise inconvenience to residents" and it is hoped the work, once started, will last a week.

An Anglian Water spokesperson said "work like this is so important to keep taps flowing and toilets flushing for the residents in Peterborough for years to come".

The road closure will affect the stretch of road between the junctions with West Lake Avenue and Jones Hill.

It is believed the installation work will take place from 24 June until 5 July, but the exact start date has yet to be confirmed.

Drivers will be advised to detour along West Lake Avenue and Four Chimneys Crescent to reach Jones Hill and vice versa.

The Anglian Water spokesperson said the road closures were to "keep our teams and other road users safe while we work".

"As one of the UK’s fastest-growing cities, the demand for water in Peterborough is growing – and all the while, climate change is bringing hotter, drier weather, meaning supply is decreasing too," the spokesperson added.
