Firefighters in Jersey have completed a water rescue course led by lifeguards from the island's RNLI.

The course took place across two days earlier in May, and 10 firefighters from the States of Jersey Fire and Rescue (SJFRS) took part.

Its aim was to teach fire service staff more about shoreline rescues.

Watch commander Richard Ryan, from SJFRS, said it had been "invaluable" for the team.

There were classroom-based sessions as well as practical exercises in a swimming pool and at St Ouen's Bay.

Mr Ryan added: "The skills and techniques we've learned will enhance our ability to perform shoreline rescues effectively and safely.

"We have developed a profound respect for the RNLI Jersey lifeguards and the risks they face daily.

"We're looking forward to building a strong working relationship and conducting more joint training exercises in the future."
