A housing estate which dates back to about 1953 is set to undergo a refurb, the States of Guernsey has said.

The Committee for Employment and Social Security (ESS) said it had sought interest from contractors to carry out the work on some 52 properties at Pre de L’Aumone Estate.

ESS said it wanted to replace doors and windows which had reached "the end of their useful life".

States director of operations Ed Ashton said the work was unlikely to start before 2025.

The committee said it wanted improve the thermal performance of the properties, reduce heat loss, reduce reactive maintenance and improve the appearance of the estate.

Mr Ashton said the work would have to be completed while occupants remained in the properties.

"Once we have confirmed the extent of the work, we will engage with our tenants before any work starts on site," he said.

He added that the pre-commitment of capital funding was for the replacement of "external components" which had reached the end of their serviceable life.

Officials said the replacement of soffits, facias, gutters and improvements to external walls were possible.

Mr Ashton said: "This is only the initial stage of finalising options and gauging the contractors interested in tendering for the work.”

ESS said specialist contractors and lead suppliers with external wall insulation experience should get in touch by Wednesday, external.
