Overnight road closures in Burnley town centre
- Published
People are being asked to plan their journeys around overnight road closures in the centre of Burnley, which are due to begin next week.
Centenary Way and Church Street are expected to be closed to vehicles at night, from 22:00-05:00 BST for nearly three weeks, between 3 June and 22 June.
Yorkshire Street, between Church Street and Belvedere Road, will also be closed across the same period, but from the earlier time of 20:30 BST.
Access will remain available at all times for residents, pedestrians and cyclists, Lancashire County Council said.
'Minimise disruption'
The road closures are required to complete the final phase of Burnley Council's 'Town 2 Turf' scheme, which aims to create better pedestrian links and improved public areas between the town centre and Burnley Football Club.
The work involves resurfacing Centenary Way and Church Street, as well as a new traffic light junction at Yorkshire Street which involves new road markings and anti-skid surfacing.
A diversion route will be in place during the closures following consultation with bus operators and the emergency services.
Director of highways and transport, Phil Durnell, said: "We are carrying out this phase of the work overnight to minimise disruption to people's journeys in this very busy area as much as we can.
"Carrying out this work overnight will allow us to make good progress," he said, adding that road closures were vital "for the safety of our highways team".
"I'd ask people to plan their journeys with these road closures in mind.
"I'm grateful for everyone's patience while we deliver these improvements."
