A woman is fighting for her life after a crash between two cars in Northumberland.
It happened on Sunday at about 19:00 GMT on the A69 near Haydon Bridge.
The 31-year-old, who was driving a white Vauxhall Corsa, was taken to hospital with what police described as "significant injuries".
Her 38-year-old female passenger was seriously injured and a seven-year-old boy, also in the car, was injured. A 56-year-old man driving a red Range Rover also required treatment.
The road was closed for about eight hours while emergency services were at the scene, Northumbria Police said.
Officers have appealed for witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage as part of the investigation.
Sgt Russ Surrey said: “This is a very serious collision which has left a woman fighting for her life and we are determined to establish exactly what has happened.
“We wish her a full recovery and we will continue to support her family and those injured in any way we can.
“A number of motorists who saw what happened, pulled over at the scene and spoke to officers, but we believe there will be others who haven’t come forward yet."
