Permit system to launch after school parking issues

A permit system is set to be introduced to deal with parking "difficulties" at a Leicestershire school.
Harborough District Council said it was bringing in the measure in response to problems faced by parents and carers of children at Market Harborough Church of England Primary School.
The new system will allow parents to use a council-owned car park in Doddridge Street, instead of on the street.
A spokeswoman for the council said the scheme would be launched in time for the new school year, at the end of August 2024.
The school parking system will operate in the Doddridge Road car park, near the school, for 30 minutes at the beginning and the end of the school day, according the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS).
It follows a similar parking scheme introduced earlier this year by the same authority, at St Joseph’s Catholic Voluntary Academy in the town.
Elaine Bird, head of regulatory services at the council, said: “We understand the difficulties that parents and carers can encounter when dropping off and picking up their children.
"The council will continue to work with schools in the Harborough district where possible to ease issues with on-street parking at peak times of the school day.”
