Community walks in memory of man who died of a brain tumour

A woman whose husband died 14 months after he was diagnosed with three aggressive brain tumours is hoping more than 100 people will turn out to take part in a community walk in his honour.

Diane Devereux, from Rushden in Northamptonshire, lost her husband, Dean, 53, 19 months ago.

She has organised the 5km (3 mile) twilight walk that will start at the town's Hall Park at 18:00 GTM, for the Brain Tumour Charity.

It comes just 16 months after she was given the all clear after being diagnosed with colon cancer in 2020.

Diane Devereux said after her own cancer diagnosis and recovery she was "living life to the full"

Mrs Devereux said her husband's diagnosis came as a shock as "he was fit as a fiddle", a vegetarian who did not drink and was a keen cyclist and runner.

After feeling unwell for a while, in 2021 he went to see his doctors and three "big aggressive" tumours were discovered which could not be removed, she said.

He was given up to 14 months to live and died in 2022, just three months before she was given "the all clear" from her own cancer, she added.

Mrs Devereux, a mother of three, said she wanted the event to be a "community thing, it's your walk, your way, if you walk a little bit, that's fine, if you can do the 5k even better, just turn up and do the walk".
