More than 500 cannabis plants have been found growing at a property in Coventry.

Police found four rooms with plants at the address in Humber Avenue on Wednesday morning, along with paraphernalia and extensive heating and lighting equipment.

The power supply, through an illegal mains bypass, was a fire hazard and National Grid was called to the scene to make it safe, West Midlands Police said.

A 22-year-old man was arrested inside the property and remains in custody, the force added.

Ch Insp Dave Amos said: "This was an excellent piece of work to take a major cannabis farm out of action and keep drugs off our streets.

"Cannabis farms are extremely dangerous, not only to the people inside, but to the communities surrounding them.

"This is not only from the crime associated with them, but also from the risk of catastrophic fires from the bypassed electricity they use.

"We rely on information from the public to build a picture of where this kind of criminality is happening, as well as who is responsible."
