Children to be given targeted water safety advice

Children will be given targeted drowning prevention tips during swimming lessons, as part of Drowning Prevention Week ahead of the summer holidays.
Across North Northamptonshire any young person aged five to 15, who do swimming lessons will receive the water safety advice.
The Royal Lifesaving Society, which runs the week, has warned increases in temperature are directly linked to an increase in fatal drowning incidents.
Last month, 17-year-old Ronalds Abele drowned in open water at the Embankment in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.
Instructors at pools run by North Northamptonshire Leisure, as well as those managed by contractors Freedom Leisure and Places for Leisure have pledged to support the campaign.
Corby’s East Midlands International Pool, East Northant’s Nene Leisure Centre, Wellingborough’s Waendel Leisure Centre, Rushden’s Splash Leisure Pool and Kettering Swimming Pool are all highlighting Drowning Prevention Week.
Children will also be sent home with information and parents and carers are being encouraged to have "vital conversations" about water safety.
Drowning Prevention week runs until 22 June.
