Scotland has seen the UK's lowest November temperature in 15 years after -12.6C was recorded in Tomintoul in Moray.

Freezing temperatures were recorded across the country overnight while a Met Office yellow warning was in place for ice in northern Scotland.

The temperature is the coldest since -18C was recorded in Llysdinam, Wales, in 2010.

More than 30 Aberdeenshire schools have closed due to the weather, and one school is shut in the Highlands. More than 100 were closed across north and north-east Scotland on Thursday.

All UK nations recorded their coldest temperatures of autumn on Thursday night except England, which hit its autumn low of -6.6C on Wednesday night.

Friday will be the final day of this cold snap, with milder weather forecast for the weekend.

Parts of Scotland have seen heavy snowfall over the past few days.

Cairngorm Mountain snowsports centre, near Aviemore, said it has enough snow to offer some skiing and snowboarding this weekend.

On Thursday, more than 100 schools were closed across north and north-east Scotland after heavy snow caused disruption across the region.

On the roads, part of the A90 was closed for several hours and a double decker bus was stuck in snow on the Banchory to Torphins road in Aberdeenshire.

Dozens of schools were also affected by snow and ice on Wednesday.
