A woman has been charged with attempted murder after a man was stabbed outside a Lancashire pub.

Estelle Whalley, 51, was arrested after emergency services were called to Pope Lane, Penwortham, on Saturday to reports of a stabbing outside the Black Bull pub at about 17:00 BST.

Officers found a man in his 50s with "a number of stab wounds" and he was taken to hospital but has since been discharged, Lancashire Police said.

Ms Whalley, of Hawksbury Drive, Penwortham, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a knife and is due to appear before magistrates in Preston, the force added.

A police spokeswoman said the victim and suspect were not known to one another.

"We would like to thank the community for their support and co-operation yesterday while we dealt with a fast-moving and dynamic incident," they added.
