Abuser jailed after his victim jumped out of window

A man who "physically, emotionally and psychologically" abused a woman has been jailed for three years and three months and given an eight-year restraining order.
Benjamin Turner, 36, from Willow Corner, Bayford, near Hertford, told his victim he would kill her before she jumped from a first-floor window to escape.
At Huntingdon Crown Court, he admitted two charges of threatening to kill and charges of coercive and controlling behaviour, unlawful wounding and strangulation.
Police said they were called after Turner assaulted his victim and grabbed her around the neck, telling her he was going to kill her.
She fought him off, jumped from the window and ran to a neighbour's home to get help.
Officers said they uncovered previous violent incidents over a period of months.
Turner had tried to strangle his victim once before and pushed her into a mirror, cutting her face.
He prevented her from getting medical attention for the injury, staying with her overnight to stop her going to hospital.
Det Con Jordan Critchley said: "He threatened to kill her, and I believe had she not escaped from his clutches on that day that he may well have followed through with that threat.
"I would like to thank the victim for her bravery. Her actions have led to a dangerous man being put behind bars. I hope she can now recover from this ordeal and move on with her life."
