Attempted murder arrest after woman hurt in fire

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was injured in a fire.

The fire, on the sixth floor of a block of flats on Milton Grove, Stafford, was put out at about 04:30 BST, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

A woman in her 40s, who had left the building before emergency services arrived, was taken to hospital with injuries, a spokesperson added.

A 31-year-old man from Stafford was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, Staffordshire Police said, and remained in custody. An inquiry into the cause of the fire is underway and police have urged anyone with information to get in touch.
