Street reopens a week on from fire at former pub

Neighbouring buildings were evacuated when the fire took hold

A main route into Norwich has reopened a week on from a fire at a former pub.

Part of the city was brought to a standstill while firefighters dealt with the blaze at the old Cat and Fiddle on Magdalen Street, on 5 June.

The road remained shut due to structural damage to the building, where 40 cannabis plants and hydroponics equipment were discovered.

Police said the fire was most likely caused by an electrical fault and appealed for anyone who saw suspicious activity at the site to contact them.

No arrests have been made.

The case was not being linked to a cannabis factory found at a three-storey building on Magdalen Street at the end of May, police confirmed.

Norfolk County Council has been approached for comment about the road closure.
