A 16-year-old boy has been charged with violent disorder, following clashes between protesters and police.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is the 31st person to be charged in connection with Bristol's violent protests.

He is due to appear at Bristol Magistrates Court on Wednesday, police said.

The unrest occurred when hundreds of far-right protesters and a counter-protest group gathered for two demonstrations near Castle Park on August 3.

Avon and Somerset Police has arrested 44 people, with 16 being jailed or detained for their involvement in the disorder.

On Tuesday, a 15-year-old boy became the first youth in the UK to receive a custodial sentence for taking part in the violent protests. He was given a four-month detention and training order.

Bristol Youth Court heard the defendant - who cannot be identified due to his age - swore at police and threw a chair at a police vehicle.

A number of demonstrations took place across England after high tensions over the killing of three young girls in Southport, Merseyside, on 29 July.

Avon and Somerset Police said it was keen to identify a number of people, external officers want to speak to as part of their investigation.
