Women's charity raises awareness of period poverty

Free sanitary products are available from Peterborough Women's Aid

A charity that helps women and girls who have suffered or are dealing with domestic abuse or violence is raising awareness of period poverty.

Peterborough Women's Aid said many victims it worked with were "so traumatised, sometimes they don't have periods, or they don't know when their periods are going to come".

It said with the rising cost of living, menstrual products were "getting unaffordable" and "victims of economic abuse may not have access to funds for sanitary products".

As part of its commitment to "helping women in need", it has offered free period items at its offices on Cromwell Road to anyone who needs them.
