A man who killed an "adored" grandfather whilst driving under the influence of cannabis has been jailed.
Michael Burgess, 35, was driving a Range Rover when he crashed into 65-year-old Terence Wragg while he was riding his motorbike along Derby Road in Denby, Derbyshire, in September 2022, killing him instantly.
Officers said Burgess tested positive for cannabis at the scene and was arrested and then charged with causing death by careless driving whilst over the prescribed limit for drugs.
Burgess, of The Leys in Little Eaton, denied the charges but he was found guilty and was jailed for six years and banned from driving for eight years when he was sentenced at Derby Crown Court on Thursday.
'Ruined so many lives'
Mr Wragg, known as Terry, died just a month before his 43rd wedding anniversary.
In a victim impact statement, his wife Yvonne said: "Terry was the most caring, supportive, kind, and loving husband I could wish for.
"He was a devoted family man who lived for his family, and I always felt loved, safe, and cared for with him.
"He was also hugely respected in the building trade and had worked for Peveril Homes for more than 20 years.
"He was my soulmate, rock, and confidante."
After delivering the news to their daughter over the phone, Yvonne was taken to the scene by officers so she could see Terry.
"While Burgess did not set out that day to kill Terry, because he got behind the wheel while under the influence of drugs, he has ruined so many lives and left me with a life sentence," added Mrs Wragg.
"He has stolen the most devoted father, grandfather, brother and uncle from my family and the kindest, most loyal friend and colleague."
In addition to a prison sentence and driving ban, Burgess must take an extended test in order to regain his licence.
