A senior Leicestershire County Council official is set to be appointed as the authority's new chief executive.

The council's current boss, John Sinnott, will retire in December after more than 30 years in the top role.

The authority has said Jane Moore, who is currently its director of children and family services, will step up to the chief executive post.

Mrs Moore, who joined the council in 2003, is set to be confirmed in the role by councillors on Wednesday following a recruitment process.

'Deliver big change'

Council leader Dan Harrison said: "Jane's appointment is testament to the hard work and leadership she has already demonstrated at Leicestershire County Council.

"Through her career, she's been responsible for supporting some of our most vulnerable children and families.

"Her knowledge and approach will be hugely valuable as we strive to provide the most efficient services and deliver big change - such as local government reorganisation."

Mrs Moore is to become chief executive as the government seeks to simplify council structures in England in a move that could see the county council dissolved in it current form and become part on a new, larger authority.
