A man who filmed a colleague using the toilet in a supermarket has been sentenced.

James Ayoola, 30, of Rydal Walk, Ipswich, Suffolk, was handed a two-year community order at Ipswich Magistrates' Court.

He admitted filming the woman on the toilet at the Marks & Spencer store at Martlesham Heath two years ago.

Ayoola must carry out 240 hours of unpaid work, has been banned from the store for two years and must pay the victim £750 in compensation.

The prosecutor in the case said the victim had been using the bathroom when she noticed a bin had been moved and an object appeared to have been placed there, covered by a cloth.

She investigated and found what looked like a camera lens, which turned out to be a mobile phone that had been recording for about six minutes.

When the content was viewed, the prosecutor said it was clear it was Ayoola's.

He was seen leaving the store and told a manager he was feeling unwell.

During a police interview, he admitted placing the phone and said he had "urges to film people on the toilet".

The victim said the incident was "horrible and disgusting" and meant she had taken time off work.

Ayoola's defence barrister said he could not explain why he did it but it was "not for sexual gratification".

As part of the community order, magistrates said he must carry out up to 30 days rehabilitation activity and the phone would be destroyed.

The court heard no copies of the video had been made and it had not been published anywhere.
