The amended proposals include starting the bus lane from the Tomline Street junction in Grimsby

Plans for a bus lane in Grimsby have been halted to allow for further discussion with residents and businesses.

North East Lincolnshire Council is looking to make the change on the eastbound carriageway of Cleethorpe Road.

The scheme was amended after 11 objections from businesses and East Marsh ward councillors who raised concerns about parking and traffic congestion.

At a meeting on Friday, Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for housing, infrastructure and transport, opted to defer the final decision to allow more time for feedback.

A report into transport in North East Lincolnshire by consultants Systra recommended a bus lane to help them run efficiently during peak traffic times.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the bus lane would be effective between 16:30 and 18:30 Monday to Saturday.

A council spokesperson said: "The council is preparing further communications with local businesses and residents, including additional information about the bus lane proposal."
