Man charged with rape and firearm offence

Dorset Police said searches remain ongoing in Weymouth for the man

A man has been charged with a series of offences including rape, possession of a knife and imitation firearm.

Dorset Police were called at about 09:45 BST on 8 October after after a woman reported she had been attacked by a man at an address in Weymouth.

The force said 62-year-old Stephen Amesbury from the Weymouth area had been charged with rape, sexual assault, possession of a knife blade or sharp pointed article in a public place and possession of an imitation firearm.

He appeared before Poole Magistrates' Court on Monday. He was remanded in custody and is next due to appear at Bournemouth Crown Court on 13 November.
