Eight men have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in east London last month.

Joshua McLean, 31, was shot dead at about 20:30 BST on 6 August in Weavers Fields, Bethnal Green.

Detectives arrested eight men, aged between 17 and 56, on suspicion of murder on Wednesday.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said they remained in custody.

Det Insp Jonny Newell said: "Our thoughts remain with Joshua’s family, who are absolutely devastated by this tragic incident.

"I am grateful to those who have spoken to officers and provided information that assisted us in our inquiries but would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of this incident to get in touch with police."

Det Supt James Conway said the arrests marked a "significant development" in the "painstaking investigation".
