A Shropshire mayor has been disqualified from driving and fined after admitting to drink-driving.

Ryan Davies, 41, the mayor of Clun, was driving a grey Mercedes on Rookery Lane, near Knighton, on 25 May. A blood sample showed he had 183 milligrams of alcohol in his system - more than twice the legal limit.

Davies originally pleaded not guilty to driving a motor vehicle when the alcohol level was above the limit and was due to go to trial at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates' Court on 18 November, but subsequently changed his plea to guilty.

He was disqualified from driving for 20 months, which could be reduced if he completes a drink-drive awareness course, and was fined £3,017.

Davies was re-elected as the chair of Clun Town Council with Chapel Lawn and the town mayor in May.

Both Davies and Clun Town Council with Chapel Lawn have been approached for comment.
