York Christmas Market stretches from Parliament Street into Shambles Market

People going to York Christmas Market should avoid travelling by car and use park and ride services instead, the city council said.

The market, which is one of the most popular yearly events in the city, will run from 14 November until 22 December.

Councillor Kate Ravilious, City of York Council's executive member for transport, said the number of city centre buses running from park and rides would be increased during the event.

Ravilious said: "Please use sustainable travel means where possible, as roads can get very congested at that time of year.”

This year there will be 75 chalet-style stalls along with food and drink sellers

The market will see 75 alpine-style chalets line Parliament Street and St Sampson’s Square, selling crafts and seasonal decorations.

A further 10 vendors will offer food and drink.

December 2023 saw the single-highest number of visitors to York city centre of any month that year, hitting about 1.2m, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS).
