A woman has been charged with assault after a protest outside a hotel thought to be housing asylum seekers.

Protesters staged a demo outside the Fownes Hotel in Worcester on 20 August, while anti-racism campaigners counter-demonstrated opposite.

Rebecca McMannus, 25, of Lowesmoor, is due to appear before Worcester Magistrates' Court on 30 September charged with assaulting an emergency worker in relation to an incident on City Walls Road.

It is the second charge following the protest, West Mercia Police said. Keil Mansfield, 38, of no fixed abode, appeared in court earlier this month charged with assaulting a police officer and is due to appear before Kidderminster magistrates on 29 September.

The protest saw about 150 people gather in total outside the Clare Street hotel, police said at the time.

The main protest was held to call for an end to hotels being used to house asylum seekers, while anti-racism campaigners staged a counter-demo on the opposite side of the road.
