An 82-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was seriously injured.

Thames Valley Police was called to reports of an assault with injury at a property in Buckingham Street in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, just after 00:40 GMT on Wednesday.

An 81-year-old woman sustained life-threatening injuries and remained in hospital in a critical condition, the force said.

Terrence Clarke, of Buckingham Street, Aylesbury, was charged with attempted murder and was due to appear at Wycombe Magistrates' Court earlier.
