Coppull Library has been described by Lancashire Council as "a vital hub"

Volunteers at a village library have been forced to move all the books into a nearby hall while "essential repairs" are carried out.

Coppull Library in Coppull, Lancashire, will shut on Thursday to allow for a new roof to be fitted.

In the meantime the volunteer-led library will temporarily operate out of Coppull Village Hall, a short distance away from the current venue.

Lancashire Council said it was aware of the importance of the library "not just as a place to borrow books, but as a vital hub for learning, connection, and community support."

"We would encourage people to make use of the temporary library or to use another nearby library, while these essential repairs are carried out," said councillor Matthew Salter, cabinet member for education and skills.

"We appreciate your patience while this work is taking place."

Events for babies and toddlers such as bounce and rhyme and story time will continue in the village hall as well as the crochet and chat group for adults.

Alternative libraries nearby are available in Chorley, Adlington, Eccleston and Euxton.
