A man has been arrested after a car hit two men, leaving one with potential life-changing injuries, in what police believe was a targeted attack.

Thames Valley Police said it had arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after the incident in St Clements, Oxford, on Saturday night at about 22:30 BST.

The driver of the grey Mercedes mounted the pavement and drove at the men, aged in their 20s, before reversing in an attempt to further harm the pair and driving off, the force added.

Both men, who police said were known to the arrested man, were taken to hospital where one remains with possible life-changing injuries.

The other suffered a minor injury and has since been discharged.

Det Insp James Holden-White, of Thames Valley Police, said: "We still believe it was a targeted attack with no threat to the wider public."

Drivers with dashcams who were driving in the area at the time are being urged to check their recordings and anyone with information or footage are asked to come forward.
