Car parking charges brought in across district
- Published
Parking charges have been introduced at 15 Kirklees car parks which were previously free to use.
The charges come into effect following a decision made by the district council in October.
Drivers using the car parks will be entitled to two hours of free parking before hourly charges kick in.
The local authority had initially proposed bringing in the charges at 57 free car parks under its jurisdiction, but scaled back the plans following a backlash.
The fees apply to car parks with 25 spaces, and most charges begin at 80p per hour for the first three hours, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
Some of the sites which have all-day parking are capped at £6.50 for five hours or more.
One exception is Field Lane in Batley, where drivers will be asked to pay £1.60 for four hours and then £3.50 for all day.
