Events are being held in Brighton and Hove to mark a week focused on raising awareness for dementia and the resources available for those it affects.

Led by Alzheimer's Society, the charity says one in three people living with the condition do not have a diagnosis and it wants Dementia Action Week, which starts on Monday, to highlight the "importance of an early diagnosis".

Dedicated cafés, cycling experiences and reminiscence sessions are being offered by various charities and groups in the city.

"We can all take action to help improve the lives of people affected by dementia and make sure they feel included," said Brighton & Hove City Council.

The Hop 50+ café at Palmeira Square in Hove, a space offering physical and social activities as part of Impact Initiative's Ageing Well programme, will display artwork and stories around "what support matters most to you" for three days from Monday.

Old Boat Corner Community Centre will also host the In Mind Dementia Café on Monday, with arts-based activities offered.

'Wind-in-hair wellbeing'

Pedal People is offering "wind-in-hair wellbeing" tandem and accessible cycling sessions for anyone living with dementia or health challenges.

The charity said that for 82% of its participants, accessible cycling was their "only form of outdoor activity".

Among other events are Sporting Memories sessions in Kemptown Crypt Community Centre and Sussex Country Cricket Club on Tuesday.

A dementia-friendly music club is taking place at Jubilee Library organised by Brighton & Hove Music for Connection.

Love to Move Sussex is leading a seated exercise class on Wednesday.

Other events include information sessions from Age UK West Sussex, DASHbrighton and The Real Junk Food Project, and Alzheimer's Society's Dementia Friends programme.
