Lincoln welcomes new council leader and new mayor

The ruling Labour group on City of Lincoln Council have put forward Naomi Tweddle as the authority's new leader.
She follows Labour's Ric Metcalfe who held the role for 21 years.
A new mayor has also been selected; Conservative councillor Alan Briggs will take over from Labour’s Biff Bean.
Mr Briggs and Ms Tweddle will be formally appointed at the council's annual general meeting on 14 May.
Ms Tweddle has been the Labour councillor for Minster Ward since 2016, and the executive member for Inclusive Economic Growth for the past year.
She was born and raised in Lincoln, growing up on the Ermine estate and attending St Peter and St Paul's school.
"I am incredibly honoured to be nominated to become the new leader of City of Lincoln Council," she said.
Mr Briggs will be the 819th mayor of Lincoln, with the title established in 1206.
The non-political role involves presiding over council meetings and representing the authority at civic and ceremonial events.
Mr Briggs, who has represented Birchwood ward since 2018 and is also a Lincolnshire county councillor, will step up from the position of deputy mayor.
Conservative councillor Bill Mara will become the new deputy mayor, while Brian Harding, an associate member of the City of Lincoln Freemen’s Gild, will take over as City Sheriff.
