A brawl at a takeaway restaurant has led to its owners getting their late-night licence withdrawn.

Munchies had been given a licence to sell hot food and alcohol until 03:30 throughout the week, just a month before.

In December, West Mercia Police were called when a customer was "repeatedly beaten" outside the restaurant, in Commercial Road, Hereford - which staff had not attempted to prevent.

As a result, Herefordshire Council’s licensing sub-committee has now backed the police’s recommendation to revoke the late-night licence.

The decision came after neither owner Ako Rasoul nor any of his staff had tried to stop the brawl.

Police also said Mr Rasoul had failed to meet other conditions of his late-night licence.

Councillor Polly Andrews said: "Taking into consideration the serious nature of the incident, the committee feels it is appropriate to revoke the licence in line with the recommendation of the police."

This news was gathered by the Local Democracy Reporting Service which covers councils and other public service organisations.
