A man who raped a woman and filmed the sexual assault and sent the clips to other people has been jailed for six years.

Gagandeep Gulati found his victim alone in Leicester's Jubilee Square and coerced her into going to nearby Castle Gardens, where he raped and sexually assaulted her last September, Leicestershire Police said.

His movements were caught on CCTV, following which he was arrested and subsequently charged with rape, two counts of sexual assault and sharing an intimate film.

The 20-year-old, of Hibernia Road, Hounslow, was found guilty following a trial and sentenced at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

He was also placed on the sex offenders register for life.

'No remorse'

The force said CCTV showed Gulati's movements but his identity was unknown.

However, the footage led detectives to an accommodation where he was recognised and arrested.

In an interview, police said Gulati claimed he was the one who had been raped and sexually assaulted by the victim.

However, detectives found he had filmed the assault on his mobile phone and sent clips to people.

Det Con Matt Smith said: "Even during cross-examination, Gulati tried to claim the victim had instigated the sexual activity and tried to blame her for the offence.

"He's shown no remorse for his actions, which was to deliberately target a young woman while she was alone for his own sexual gratification.

"The victim has shown immense bravery by reliving her ordeal through the trial."
