A 13th Century indoor market is set to be restored after it was bought by a council.
The purchase price for Wellington Market was not revealed by Telford and Wrekin Council but it said funding came from the government.
The site was recently modernised by the authority, which paid for a food court inside and an outdoor pop-up market.
People in the town will be asked this winter for their views on how to restore the building, the council said.
Plans include funding work to overhaul the entrances to the market.
Previous work to improve the market had already cut the number of empty shop units inside, councillor Lee Carter said.
"This project creates a significant opportunity to enhance the market into a modern, thriving venue at the heart of Wellington," he added.
The indoor market, which was established in 1244, is home to more than 50 shopping units and cafes, as well as the new food court.
