Plymouth Pirates weekend attracted a record number of 50,000 visitors across the two-day event, organisers have said.

The 14th weekend saw visitors enjoying pirate themed activities including storytellers, face painting, traditional shanty bands, a pirate dog show and more.

Plymouth Waterfront Partnership said the atmosphere throughout the event on the 17 and 18 May was "fantastic".

"It's wonderful to see so many people embracing the pirate spirit and enjoying the entertainment on offer," said Jon Walton and Kim Downer from the partnership.

Organisers said the annual event brought crowds of "enthusiastic landlubbers and seasoned sea dogs alike"

They said a highlight of the event was the Pirate Fun Run to raise money for Jeremiah's Journey, which showed "the generosity of our community while supporting such an important cause".

John Naismith, from Jeremiah's Journey, said: "We were overwhelmed by the incredible turnout... seeing so many people dressed up and taking part with such enthusiasm was truly inspiring."

Mr Walton and Ms Downer said they wanted to thank everyone who supported the weekend.
