The cost of refurbishing Aberdeen's Bucksburn swimming pool could more than double, a report has warned.

The pool closed its doors as part of the city council's budget cuts last year but the local authority later overturned its decision following a legal battle with campaigners.

This year's budget included £1m for recommissioning work, including to reduce the pool's energy costs.

However an external design team has now reported that the building's internal fabric has deteriorated significantly.

Council officials say an estimated £1.1m will need to be taken from next year's contingency budget.

That would take the cost of reopening the pool to more than £2m.

Members of the council's finance committee will discuss the issue next week. The city council has said its intention is that the pool will reopen in during the 2025/26 financial year.
