An artist’s impression has been released showing what the planned revamp of a city's museum could look like.

Plans to refurbish the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery in Stoke-on-Trent are being drawn up after the city council was awarded £5m from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and Arts Council England.

They include a new entrance, an artist-in-residence room, increased storage capacity, a new location for the cafe and a terraced area.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council said the revamp would ensure the museum is “modernised and enhanced for people to enjoy for many years to come”.

Councillor Jane Ashworth, leader of the authority, said: “The plan is to create a striking building and new spaces to showcase our city’s world class museum collections while enhancing the experience for visitors."

The council said a planning application for the development was due to be submitted this week.
