A film fanatic has opened a Blockbuster-inspired DVD library outside his house.

Peter Goddard, from Alderholt, Dorset, was inspired by a resident who made an outdoor book library in the village.

The 39-year-old, self-confessed "90s kid", said he wanted to re-create the Friday nights he remembered when he was growing up.

He said the miniature store, which he put up on Sunday, contains DVDs from his own collection and donations from neighbours and is free to use.

Mr Goddard works as a site manager at a school, but also makes amateur films and wedding videos.

He said in a world where people can stream movies and music whenever they want "physical media is making a comeback" as "people are starting to miss the feeling of having a tangible item in their hands".

"I remember being eight or nine and going with my mum to the local video rental to get a couple of films for the weekend," he said.

"Nowadays we are spoilt for choice but back then you were at the mercy of what the video shop had.

"You commit to a film because you had taken the time to borrow it."

Mr Goddard said residents really liked the "sense of nostalgia" that the store provides, and it has been appreciated by people who do not use streaming services.

He has now also created a Facebook page for the library.

"People have been really positive about it in the village and said how fantastic it is," he added.

The mini-Blockbuster has features similar to those offered by the video store chain, which was founded in 1985, like popcorn and a "must see movie" section.
