Plans to demolish an ageing Derby primary school and rebuild it along with a nursery have been submitted.

Becket Primary School in Monk Street, is set to be developed as part of the Department for Education's (DfE) School Rebuilding Programme (SRP).

The project would see a new teaching block built on the site and the existing school buildings demolished.

A planning application has been lodged with Derby City Council.

Under the plans, the new teaching block would have capacity for 210 pupils between the ages of four and 11.

A nursery for 26 children between three and four would also be built if proposals are given the go-ahead.

Plans are also in place for a new multi-use games area, a football playing field, and a new 25-space car park.

A new school entrance would access the site from Stockbrook Street, with the existing entrance on Monk Street being closed off and retained for field access only.

Documents submitted by Watson Batty Architects say the siting of the new building will ensure teaching can continue throughout the construction period.
